Gouache and Watercolor on Paper

The original painting is 10.5×8 inches and is matted and set in an 11×14 inch frame. The piece is signed and dated by the artist.

This painting was inspired by my passion for the outdoors and the thrill of catching native brook trout in their wilderness habitat. I wanted to capture the beautiful colors of this sleek animal alongside of the muted, bushy Adams fly used to catch this aggressive predator. The work is based (and used by permission) on a photograph taken by fisherman and wildlife photographer Dec Hogan.

Watercolor paints allowed for a more impressionistic look in the background and non-focal points of the piece. The gouache creates more vibrant and opaque details that bring texture and life to the scene.

I hope that the viewer can enjoy the beauty of this animal and the intimacy of the interaction between creature and man...moments before it is released back to the wild.

Styles: Realism, Expressionism, Impressionism, Illustration
