We Have a Problem

from $28.00

Watercolor on Paper

The original painting is 8×10.5 inches (unframed) and is signed and dated by the artist.

Have you ever felt helpless…utterly helpless? There are few people who are more capable and trained for every contingency than an astronaut. When you see fear in their eyes, you know the problem is larger than even the best of us can handle. I have an almost violent aversion to this feeling and will do almost anything to avoid it. However, I am learning that in the times of such desperation I tend to grow and change the most as I look to the One who holds me in His hands. This work is about sitting in this place of tension.

A face emerges from shadow, partially obscured by the reflective curve of a helmet, where light gathers in a single stricken eye. Built in layered watercolor, the image balances deep, velvety blacks with warm, luminous highlights, allowing form to surface gradually from darkness. The result is both intimate and cinematic.

Styles: Realism, Expressionism, Impressionism, Illustration
